OIL Pan Gasket Replacement.....

Hello Gang!



My Oil Pan Gasket is weeping oil on the driver's side front corner and blowing oil on the front axle.



Does Cummins offer a replacement gasket that can be installed without engine removal? I'm not sure there's enough room to drop the pan.



Has anyone replaced the Oil Pan Gasket on a "W" seriers First Gen? What's involved?

I have heard through the grapevine that on the 2nd Gen trucks you can unhook one engine mount and jack up or lift the engine to gain enough clearance.



On a 1st Gen... I would think that with a cherry picker you could lift it pretty high before the bellhousing hits the firewall... .



It's nice being able to see all 6 valve covers!

Hey Keeno,

I have a leak right there but it is from the power steering/vacuum pump gasket to the engine. It blows all over the front axle. Are you positive it isn't that or the front seal? I'd hate to do all that work and still have an issue.

I have to do the same thing. :{ I have it on good authority (two different sources) that it can be done! I was told to remove the fan (not sure why yet), the 4 bolts holding the motor mounts and raise the front of the engine with a hoist. The "W" trucks benefit from dropping the oil pickup tube once the pan is loose to get it by the front diff.

Matt S: (How the heck are You?) I'll do a bit more investigation on your tip. I haven't really cleaned anything off and done the proper investigation. I hope it's that simple!



JBolt & H'Holset: Thanks for the info. It looks like a fairly invovled process if it really is the Oil Pan Gasket. I like an engine compartment that you can take a nap in if the occasion ever arises!
