I have '01 with manual trans. I need to pull the oil pan to replace gasket. What is the procedure? Do I need to lift motor? How high? How much do I need to disconnect? Thanks for help.
Hello, I had a 2001 and all I did was loosen the engine mount bolts and lifted with a cherry picker until I could slide the pan out. You will have to remove the oil pickup while the pan is down a couple of inches and then you can pull the pan out once the motor is lifted up. Overall a pretty easy job with a little patience. Take care,
I had a small oilpan leak at approximately #5 cylinder on the left side of the engine. I just snugged the 2 bolts ( gently! )and it hasn't leaked since. That was several thousand miles back.
The Pan bolts torque is 18 ft lbs, Had a leak start on mine about a teaspoon drop every time I drove it. Rolled under it and got about a quarter turn on all bolts. That cleared up my Oil leaks.
A trick that worked for me, before you change the pan gasket take only four bolts out at one time, clean bolts and threads with brake clean, Make sure they are dry, coat threads of bolts with RTV heat proof silicone, Torque as above, let dry over night.
Bolts go through oil pan and are open inside, this seals the problem.

The procedure calls for removing the transmission, or at least sliding it back some and removing clutch, trans. adapter plate, starter, etc. Is this really necessary?
I haven't personally done this, but a long-time mechanic friend told me you can leave the engine in place and change it. Drop the pan (make sure area is as clean as possible). Slide the front edge of the gasket into the gap between the block and pan. There is enough room and flex in the gasket so you can maneuver the gasket around the pan from the bottom and get it in place without all of the loosening and lifting.
