After getting my rig back from the dealer, my oil preasure went from 60 to 40 to 20 then the dreaded 0 while I was driving! Luckily I was back in route to the shop 'cause the alignment di'nt work; coasted into the lot and asked what happened? Could this 18 yr. old kid who brought my rig back have had any impact on this if abused on his way back?

Had a new sending unit installed and oil preasure still fluctuates. This thing had rock solid preasure before the kid test drove it back!

20-30 psi at idle
40 at low rpm's
60 or so while cruising
What's normal?

Those pressures seem about normal to me.

Warm idle, a hair over 30 psi

Cruising at 70 just about 60 psi

That really burns my a## when they let some minimum wage lot jockey anywhere near my truck. I had to fight them off when I took delivery. They wanted to wash the truck and run in down to the station and fuel it up. When I have to leave a vehicle at the dealer for warranty work I make it very clear to the service manager who I want to move my vehicle.

The #ord dealer down the road from me uses the road in front of my place as part of their diagnostic/service test drive route, you should see some of the stuff that goes on. I saw friends Mustang go past at a very high rate of speed several times, it was in for a heater core replacement. I gave him a call to let him now what was going on. He had an intersting conversation with the service manager.

You gotta watch em like a hawk.

Paul-I just got a new '01. 5 on Monday, and on the drive home from the dealer the oil guage did the same thing, except that shortly after it hit 0 psi,it would read eratically. Upon calming myself down and checking all that I could,I took it to the local dealer to have it looked at. They replaced the oil pressure sensor and reflashed the ecm per a new tsb that just came out on Tuesday. I don't have the tsb # for you,but you might want to check into it. Guage reads properly now.

My oil pressure gauge started dropping the day I bought the truck. I stopped for the night and looked everything over. The next morning the pressure was fine. A couple hours down the road it fell to 0. I called a Dodge dealership who told me it is a known problem. He had no sending units in stock so I kept going. The gauge came back later that day and has been fine since.
I'm wondering if it's an intelligence test for new owners #ad

I have never had a problem with mine. Those number's seem OK to me though, it's an 01.

My gauge has been doing the 0-drop for a week now. and It is very anoing to here the "Ping-Ping" every few seconds to every other miniute. I guess I will drive with the window down to smother this sound with the good old "Cummins clatter. "
And yes I will get a new sender!

I'm HAPPY my warranty expired... now I'm not tempted to take it to the dealer for anything anymore. #ad

I forgot to tell you what I wanted to tell you the first time. One, I know your frustration because I've been there. Two, I would definitely make THEM fix it and I'd consider having another dealer look it. Three, document everything that happens. Good luck.

I've got a 98. 5 and had a similar problem. My oil pressure gauge wouldn't work @ start-up. This happen several times and each time it set a trouble code. My oil pressure was fine because checking my bypass filter I had oil flow and you need at least 30psi before oil will flow through it. At the time there was a service bulletin on this broblem and a reflash of the ECM was the fix. Haven't had the problem since; going on 2yrs now.
