So, whats the drill on replacing the oil pressure sending unit? Is this a big job and is it pricey. I still have a bit of time and mileage on my warranty, I'm thinking I might make use of it with this. I just don't like the idea of taking my truck to a dealer. What do you guys think? It's annoying driving around with the oil pressure gauge at zero.

Craig

Dealer more than likely will flash it and send you on your way and then you will have to bring it back to have the sender changed!

That was the way it happened to me when I tried to get the sender replaced.

DONT GET THE REFLASH!!! Insist that the dealer check the sender (by replacement) first. The reflash tells the PCM to *IGNOR* a high or low reading form the sender and put 40 PSI on the dash.

They reflashed mine and I had 40PSI constantly; I went back and complained, after trouble shooting it they found the sender was bad. Now I have a worthless gauge on the dash because if I ever lose oil pressure the reflash will tell the PCM to put 40 PSI on the dash. Thanks DC, what POS idea this is and no way to reverse it.

Easy, takes 5 minutes. Paid 71$ at my local Cummins shop. 1 1/4 deep socket and a 6 " extension, piece of cake. DON'T LET THEM REFLASH YOUR TRUCK!

Thanks for the heads up guys. I definately don't want that reflash. I also wouldn't mind making a little use of my "waste of money" extended warranty. Maybe I'll try calling my dealer and asking them if they would replace the sender. Then I'll have to stand over the tech monkey to make sure he doesn't mess with my truck. What a pain in the arse. Maybe I will just pay the 71 bucks and replace it myself. Why the heck to these things go bad? I assume it is a Cummins part not DC...

thanks again,

Craig

Ok, lets say its Saturday, your 200 miles from home, and the oil pressure goes to 0, what do you do? You get somebody else to fix it and send Dodge the bill correct?

Now say this above problem happened and you just happen to see a Cummins shop so you pulled off the road into the cummins shop, they did not have time to work on the truck, BUT they sold you a sender and let you borrow there wrench, now what do you do? You send the bill to Dodge!

My Local Cummins factory store is open until lunch on Saturdays. Just keep the old sender to give to Dodge.

Get the Picture :) If you are thinking of doing the job anyway, why not try to get Dodge to reinburse you for the part? Hell by buying it direct from Cummins, your probably paying the same price as Dodge is anyway so they are saving money!
