Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil pressure 95 3500

I am getting serious about buying a 95 3500. When I test drove it I noticed the oil pressure would go to 20 psi under 1000 rpm and 40 psi over 1000 psi. Is it normal for the oil pressure to go up and down like this? My 97 2500 doesn't do that.



Also, when I looked under the hood I saw a white "X" on the front of the head. A friend on mine said it means the engine is either rebuilt of came from a salvage yard. Is my friend right?



Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mine does about the same regarding oil pressure.



I do not know about the X.



Why go to a '95?
