If my truck sits for a week or so in the cold weather, it seems to take an unreasonably long time for the oil pressure guage to register at startup. The check guages light stays on and this only happens after sitting for awhile.

Probably what is happening is the oil in your filter is slowly siphoning back to the pan during the long park period. When you start it's taking longer to refill it before the pressure builds. I've heard the check valves in cheap oil filters can leak the oil back faster and cause this problem with just a short park. I think in a week most any filter will allow drainback.

i have had the same problem. . the dealer svc technician told me that if it went for 30 seconds shut it down... so far 12 seconds is the max... i havent had any problem

Thanks for the replies, mine is about 10 seconds or so like yours, I'll keep an eye on it, thanks again.

John,
Pull your fuel shut off solnoid connector apart crank engine a few times(under 15 seconds). Put the connector bakc together than start engine. See if this will help your oil pressure to come up faster.

Missouri Mule,
I'm sure this would help address the oil pressure on startup, but you're still cranking a cold (oil drained off walls) engine. How does this help things?

Vaughn,if you install a switch in one of the wires going to the #9 fuse in the cab it will do it,if you hide the switch it can also be an anti-theft kill switch. Check your manual first for changes in your model year before you cut. Many folks say these engines do not need to be prelubed, and I tend to agree.

Cooker, I think the rings help trap some oil, so that should not be a problem. The biggest fear is for the bearings with a high compression engine pounding on them with no oil pressure.

On the 24V trucks, does anyone know of a good place to install a switch in the injection pump circuit to allow cranking without starting??

Vaughn
