 Hey gang, I'm curious whether anyone else ran into this problem...

Tonight I started the truck and I had a buzzer go off, then I noticed a red engine light on the dashboard panel indicated "check gauges" when I noticed the oil pressure gauge was all the way to "0". I immediately pulled over and checked the engine oil and of course it had a normal reading of full.

Then I restarted the engine and everything was back to normal.

What's going on here? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I will continue monitoring this but I was concerned whether this was a sign of a future problem.

Any help is most appreciated...

Well it could just be a voodoo anomoly that will never happen again - so you could just forget all about it. BUT, if it does it again, I would check the connector to the oil pressure switch. You'll find it just below the ECM's connectors (driver's side of engine). It has a large hex fitting, maybe disconnect the sensor and inspect and reconnect? Failing to be a bad connection, here or elsewhere, it may be the pressure sensor itself going out.

I have noticed on my 98. 5, that if I put shifter in to drive, without waiting for the oil pressure to come up to normal. Sometimes the check engine light will come on and I will have no oil pressure on gauge. Restart and all is ok.

Yes there are several posts about this. I changed my oil pressure sending unit to fix the problem. Do a search on this, you should find all kinds of info.

Do'nt let the dealer take your warning chime and pressure gauge to ''the happy land where gauges never reach zero''

I have read before that there is a TSB that changes / fools the info from the gauge so it always reads at least 40 PSI. Not too cool if you really do lose all oil pressure and you get no warning:mad:

Perhaps someone can post the thread that concerns the gauge workaround or advise if I am mistaken about it.
