Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil Pressure Gauge / Check engine light?

I've noticed that at initial start-up, my check engine light stays on for a couple seconds longer than the other lights. The oil pressure gauge is reading 0 during this period. Once the pressure pops up to @40psi, the check engine light goes off. Obviously, the check engine light is on because it sees the low pressure. Should I be concerned? Is this normal? I don't want my engine running "dry" during that entire period. Shouldn't the oil pressure (gauge) go up almost instantly? I have and Amsoil bypass filter set-up on the truck for whatever that is worth.

Mine does the same thing. I have never had a problem, I would say its OK.

mine does it too and it makes me paradoid my engine is self destructing during those few seconds..... but never had a problem.

Mine does it too and done it since i noticed it i have no oil pressure for 4-5sec. in the am when sitting for overnight. not a problem in 320k miles as far as internals of the mtr

This is normal.



There was a thread about this several years ago and it was agreed on that there is a delay in the gauge reading after starting the motor. Also, I run a seperate Isspro Oil Pressure gauge, and it shows pressure way before the OEM gauge does.

My motor started doing same thing at 1800 miles.

Dealer said go ahead and keep driving no problem.

Well they ended up replacing my motor. They had

someone come in from out of state to check motor.

Paperwork I got back with truck said faulty oil

pump which in turn took out turbo.
