I HAVE READ MANY THREADS ON THE 3RD GEN. OIL PRESSURE GAUGES BEING FAKE. SO WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS WHAT KIND OF MECHANICAL GAUGE TO GET AND WHERE TO PLUG IT IN ON THE ENGINE BLOCK? Oo.

It can be easily installed by using a brass tee where the oil pressure sending unit goes on the driver side of the block about mid way between front and back. I put the sending unit back in but you would not need to. You cold use a 90 degree elbow. Maybe a 45 degree would be better. You can decide once you get to it. My chimes kept going off after replacing the sending unit twice so I turned up the idle and except for a real hot day they stay quiet. When they do go off a quick look at the mechanical gage and as long as it is not below 15 I feel safe. There is a special socket for sending units because of the electric wire interfering with a regular socket. Most auto parts stores have them or could order you one. six feet of hose going through the firewall is what it took for my 98 12v. I mounted the gage on the right side of the ash tray. Use a 100 pound gage for when the oil is cold it goes way up and as it warms up the gage will drop as low as 20 pounds at idle. I put jack stands under the frame and removed the left front wheel and the fender liner. that gives you easy access. I could sit on a stool and work comfortably. It is also a easy way to get to the fuel filter. You can get 7/16 hex head sheet metal screws (at Ace Hardware) to replace the plastic fasteners that you will break when you remove the liner. Also a good idea to use fender washers. Your liner will now be set up for easy future access. Questions E-mail -- email address removed --

yeah, if you can find a brass M14x1. 5 tee fitting. . there are 2 plugs forward of the oem switch, that are M10x1. 0 and you can always tap off the filter head with the 1/8"npt fittings...

There could be a difference in the 12v block and the 24v block, mine is a 12v. Auto parts stores and Ace Hardware usually stock all kinds of brass fittings.

Erogers: You can't mount a different gauge to the stock dash. We drive computers now and the stock gauges are hooked into a databus. The gauge is controlled by the ECM on the bus. The only option is to bypass the bus with a straight electric or mechanical gauge.

TRUE!! I just learned that the instrument cluster is also the whole body computer and controls all things to do with the body. The VIN is imbedded too, so that means you can't swap clusters to get it fixed when this truck gets old.
