OK, So I've been reading the gauge on my 06 is a "feel good" gauge with no actual measurement other than is there more than 6 psi of pressure, so my question is this:

Can I hyjack the signal that feeds the stock gauge and connect to a sensor that actually reports the real oil pressure? I think it would be a cooler and cleaner install compared to aftermarket gauges.

Any thoughts?

Thats what I wanted to know. See the search does work. It woulda been better if someone had answered it though.

Where is the stock 6 psi sensor? CAn a real sensor be installed in its place and then circumvent the computer somehow?

I doubt it, to both questions.

The stock gauge is not like a normal aftermarket gauge that has a couple wires on the back, it's most likely mounted on a printed circuit board so doing anything to modify the signal it gets is a bad idea in my opinion.

As to the second question, the sender simply closes at 6 psi and the computer then uses RPM, temp and other factors to display what it thinks the operator expects to see on the guage (why it isn't easier to simply display the actual value is beyond me) but my gut tells me that simply changing the sending unit wouldn't effect the signal the computer sends to the gauge.
