Temp gauge question...

Hi, I plan on installing a DiPricol oil pressure guage. I bought it from Dieselmanor.com and it came with a plastic tubing installation kit.

My question is: Should I use an isolator? I used one for my fuel pressure guage install and am glad I did since I didn't tighten the compression fitting quite enough on the guage and a small amount of glycol leaked. (better than fuel). What type of isolator will work with the temps and pressure of oil?

This guage came with no install directions or suggestions at all. I can figure out the wiring, but don't like the idea of hi temp and high pressure oil in the cab...

Thanks, Bill

P. S I want to stick with DiPricol as they are a perfect match to OEM guages

An isolator wouldn't hurt but they ran oil into the cab on all the rigs in the old days. Usually a copper line though. My OP gauge is electric.

I run oil directly into the cab using -AN fittings and stainless steel braided hose. No issues whatsoever and I have the piece of mind of knowing what the true oil pressure is! I had an ISSPRO electric gauge before and it gave readings that were fairly close to the current ISSPRO mechanical gauge, except the electric gauge kept on going TU every so often.

Out of curiosity what are you seeing for oil pressure?

I've got ~30 psi @ hot idle

~55 psi @ hot cruise

~85 psi at cold idle with highest recorded 115 psi.

That seems a little high to me. Measured at the top of filter housing.

Scott-

20-25 psi hot idle

60-65 psi hot cruise

80 psi cold idle

~90 psi cold puttering around

~50 psi warm start

I also have it tapped off the top of the filter housing and run Delo 15W40!

Thanks, gents! I had thought about using steel line braided hose. I will just have to determine if that will work with my 3 gauge headliner pod... I really do want to get those last 3 gauges up there, oil press, trans and rear diff temp. The DiPricols are an excellent match to OEM.

Cheers, Bill

I used -3AN braided line (Autometer gauge line from Summit Racing). It is still pretty difficult to get the tight radius bends. On my steering gauge pod I cut a relief in the back so that the line would have a pretty straight shot into the back of the gauge. Maybe a hydraulic shop can make you up some smaller diameter braided line for strength and flexibility? -3AN is 3/16" ID line, but copper gauge tubing is 1/8". I use copper tubing in older vehicles, but I would be reluctant to run it into the cab on these new trucks.

i've got about 20psi [i'd type in the +- sign, but this new version of firefox goes nuts if you try and type in the alt+0177:rolleyes:] idling hot on a mechanical gauge off the main lube oil gallery with 0w40 synthetic in the sump...
