Has any ever figuerd out why the oil pressure drops from 40 psi on the instrument cluster gauge to a lower value around 20-25 psi all of a sudden at idle ?

BT. could be any or all of: Engine wear(clearances), oil pump wear, low lube oil viscosity, etc. When the engine idles down, all of these would show up as the pump output volume drops off. See if it does it when the engine is cold, and be sure that you're not losing oil.

TEasley & bmoeller> I noticed when oil is cold the gauge reads about 50psi untill oil starts warming up, then slowly drops, i'm useing 15-40 Mobile delvac that Iv always used. My mecanical gauge agrees with dash gauge. My mech gauge is connected at oil filter port. I have replaced sending unit with after market unit and there is no differance from old unit. Thanks
