I,m not sure if I have a problem or not. After driving at high speed (freeway) for long distance (100+ miles) and getting off at ramp my Chime (check Gauges) comes on and I notice the Oil Pressure is reading " 0 ".
After a few seconds it jumps up to min. and may fall back to 0 again. This does not happen all the time but often enough to worry me. Anyone else experience this?? After reading 0 if I rev the engine it jumps back up. 2001, 3500, 410 rearend, Quadcab.

I would hope they would improve some things as time went on, about 3 years ago while I was in the middle of nowhere Nebraska in the middle of the night in the middle of winter I started getting the same indications.

I pulled over to check the oil level, and look for leaks, but everything looked good, so I prayed my way for the next 6 hours till I arrived at the destination.

The oil sender was bad. They use the same sender for the guage and the idiot lights. Haven't had a problem since.

I can't belive the problem still exists in 2K.

OFF 2 OZ If its under warranty take it to Dodge let them fix it.
I agree with bubba oil pressere sending unit,
but just in case check the connector to make sure its on tight. Wires gounding out could cause problem too.
If your lifters were not talking loudy to you, it should not be mechanical.

Cummins use Mechanical Lifters--they sound the same at 0psi oil pressure as they do at 90! Plus the clatter makes it impossible to really tell what your oil pressure is by sound anyway #ad

Don't take a chance, I wouldn't drive it without getting it checked out, you may consider towing it, but Bubba & Missouri are probably right it is only the gauge or sending unit #ad

I believe it was the 98. 5/24v's that had a very sensitive ECM program that would not sense the oil pressure correctly and tell the guage to 0 out and set off the chime. I wonder if old problems are being used again. It was fixed by flashing the ECM with an updated program.

Sender unit, Cummins has the best price $71. 46, dealer starts at $120. 00. It is easy to replace. Mine went out at 50820 miles (98. 5ISB) and it acted the same way. I disected the old sensor and it has a flex circuit with passive components on it. ( ie resisitors and capacitors). I believe they cannot handle the heat. The part must be under engineered. Good luck
