Oil Pressure Question

I would like to get some opinions on oil pressure. At a flat idle my oil pressure gauge sometimes dips as low as 20 lbs on the stock factory guage. As you step on the throttle there is a 1 second slight dip below 20 lbs. before jumping up to around 45 lbs. is this normal or should I be concerned ?? I have 97,000 miles on her & my warranty is about to run out. Also I am using 15-40 Amsoil Marine Deisel oil. Any feedback is appreciated

At about the same mileage, my 96 began acting the same way. I replaced the oil pressure sender and it's been perfect since.

Albacore, there's only one way to be sure. Buy a cheap oil pressure gauge, (under ten bucks at Walmart), plumb it into the port on top of the oil filter, and run it through the firewall grommet. I put mine in under the dash, using one of the existing screws. Remember, this is just temporary. I didn't even bother with lights at first. I just WANTED TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!! I don't trust electronic oil pressure gauges. I just about had a heart attack with some of the crazy things my factory gauge was doing. Anyway, it's very interesting to see what's really happening with your Cummins' oil pressure.

Albacore, same thing happened to me, don't let them charge you too much the list is twenty something, and show them yours so they can order the right one, they changed the plug part of them a couple of times, I was told. They ordrered mine wrong the first time.
