I recently had the oil pressure sender go out on my truck. The check gauges light and chime were on, the oil pressure gauge was at zero. I verified that the motor had oil pressure to the turbo.

Called the Dodge parts guy they wanted $214. 00 for the part

Stock p/n 3348749 'thats a Cummins p/n#

Called Cummins Northwest for the part after some digging they advised me to use the upgraded sensor p/n 4083390 ... $74. 00 ;) and they had it in stock.

I had asked what size deep socket fits that sensor as I did not have one to fit. The Cummins tech answered that 1. 25" deep socket chrome, not impact would fit because of the tight quarters and to get to it straight through the wheel well. Followed their advice bought the socket, no problems.

I will always check with my friendly Cummins parts guy first!

Hope this helps some one else.

Access to replace the oil pressure sensor

I just had the same experience, oil pressure went to zero and the chime came on. I want everyone to know that you want to order the replacement p/n 4088390 and do not order the switch type replacement inwhich the ECM or PCM has to be reprogrammed to make the oil pressure gage inactuality an "idiot" light.

Also beside the 1 1/4" deep wall 6 point socket, you will need to obtain 9 replacement nylon rivets for the wheel well. Your better automotive part stores will have either Dorman p/n 700-577 or Motormite p/n 45610

Regarding access to this oil pressure sensor, do the following:

1. Disconnect both batteries negative battery connection.

2. Remove the driver side wheel.

3. Throw a towel or cloth over the wheel brake assembly to keep you from getting brake stuff all over you.

4. Remove the wheel well plastic liner by pushing in the 1/8" shanks in the plastic rivets, then afterwards remove the rivet bodies. There should be a total of 9 to remove.

5. Disconnect the wire cable to the sensor. As John said using a deep wall 1 1/4" 6 point not an impact socket with a long extention and rachet remove the sensor.

6. Install the replacement sensor and torque it to 12 foot pounds. Reconnect the sensor cable.

7. Reconnect the battery negative connections. Start the engine to verify that the pressure gage reading returns and that there isn't any oil leaks coming from the oil pressure sensor.

8. Reinstall the wheel well liner using either nine Dorman # 700-577 or Motormite # 45610 nylon rivets.

9. Remove the towel from the brake assy and re-install the wheel.....

Total time to do this job is less than one hour... ... .

If you are long armed.

All you need to do is locate the oil pressure sensor on the drivers side of the block and unlatch the sensor and then remove with a 32mm or 1 1/4 (like said above) DEEP well and unscrew.

I would just give it a good snug when re-installing, it is brass based and can break very easily.

Should take all of 5 minutes.
