I own a 1998 24-valve and just purchased a 2001 high output too. I've noticed that the oil pressure seems to be different between the two trucks. The 1998, at idle, has 55 pounds of pressure and at full throttle it increases to 80. The 2001, at idle, has 38 pounds of pressure and at full throttle it increases to 60.

Even the gauges are different with respect to the scale/number increments. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? Does the 1998 in fact operate with a higher oil pressure than the 2001?

The thermostat is another story...

Chip at BlueChip Diesel and I were talking a few weeks ago and he mentioned that 98. 5s had considerably higher oil pressure than later models, nothing to be concerned about. I think the topic came up b/c my oil filter was leaking around the seal... .

Appreciate the response, sounds as if what I'm seeing is normal. Guess Cummins experiences the same delima that the hot rodders do... higher pressure vs. volume. Thanks. :D
