I've been reading about the problems with fake gauge DC uses for oil pressure (thats a joke). Anyway, I see that some say the oil pump produces large volume, but I want to know about the pressure. Im mounting a by-pass filter on the frame by the down-pipe and would like some response to the distance of oil travel and oil psi. I don't have a mechanical pressure gauge, but Im worried about the distance to and from the filter. Am I going to have enough pressure??

I don't think you are going to have a problem. If you connect a By-pass correctly, it should not lower the pressure. The Amsoil by-pass (BMK-11) has a very small orriface in the return side of the mount that restricts flow. I'm reasonably sure all the others would have some restriction as well, because by-pass filters usually only flow a bout 10 percent of the oil through them at any given time.

I have seen some installations of the Amsoil By-Pass (BMK-11) located as far away as 6 ft from the pressure source, without effecting the actual oil pressure.

NOw if you use an Amsoil "Duel-remote" by-pass, then you may have a problem, as the computer generated oil pressure gauge will show a loss of pressure, and sometimes total loss, when infact there is still pressure there. This is why Amsoil suggests the use of the BMK-11 By-pass units on 2004 and newer CTD trucks.

Well Wayne, now you can say you know of one that is mounted well over 10 feet from the source... I have no problem with oil flow in my BMK-11... even at temps in the 20s and pushing the oil through a 1/4"ID line...

I would not be concerned about the effects on a standalone bypass filter, but I might be concerned about mounting a fullflow filter as far away as my bypass, but you could aways up the line size to offset the friction of the tubing.

My first bypass is on the frame under the passenger seat. It feeds back into another bypass under the air filter, then back to the valve cover. My pressure is the same as it was before the install.

My BMK-11 is set to the rear of the truck, just in front of the passenger's rear tire... it is slightly over 26 feet of 1/4"ID line from top of the filter to the top of the valve cover...

There is also a small oil cooler on the return line...

I installed a small mechanical gauge on the 1/8" port above the stock oil filter, just for peace of mind. Does anyone stock an Optix pressure gauge that actually says oil pressure on the face? I'd feel better if I could read oil pressure in the cab.
