on my 2001 24 valve cummins the guage reads 40 when first started cold. After about 5-10 minutes it goes directly to 60. Is this a guage problem or sending unit problem. How do I trouble shoot to find the problem and should I not be driving till it is corrected.

When mine went bad the gauge went directly to 80 and stayed there. It's the sender. Get a new one from cummins, much cheaper than Dodge, same part. If you can get the old part. # it will still act as a gauge don't get the newer part # the gauge becomes an idiot light. I'll look for the old number and post later or you can do a search. Good Luck
