Has anyone had the Tsb reflash for the oil psi gauge problem and experienced any side effects? I am leary about letting the dealer plug into my truck. It would be my first time, just a little cautious

DON"T DO IT!!

Do not do this reflash, it turns your guage into an idiot gauge. I had it done a year or so ago. It's like Bill said, the guage will no longer show low oil pressure or sound the warning chime if you lose pressure. If your gauge is acting up, buy a new sender and fix it yourself.

WRONG

The problem is that there is low voltage going to the sender. SO replacing the sender is NOT THE CURE. Thats where the reflash comes in, it tells the ECM to up the voltage going to the sender which makes the gauge read more accurately. I might add that I had mine flashed and I am very satisfied. I can actually tell when the oil filter is starting to get restricted. This only applies for 24v's with an ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER of 56744083 to 56809910. ESN plate location driver side toward front of block.

5 INCH STACKS coming soon. Oo.

Dodge makes it CUMMINS shakes it.

there are conflicting responses here... do a search and read about this flash... several threads on the subject...

NO FLAME Intended... but you never know the knowledge of the responders

I tend to trust those that have been around here a long time [with some bias to wrenches v/s DIY guys] V/S newer posters ... again NO FLAME intended

I had mine replaced under warranty and told them not to. They did listen and it is fine. While this was going on a while back someone told me theres was reflashed and it just stays the same. I asked my mechanic down there and said it could not be flashed back. I dunno this is what the mechanic said.

Like I said the reflash makes the gauge lie to you. It's a good liar too, that's why those of you who have had the reflash done haven't noticed anything different.

It's a liar now...

I do believe my gauge is a fibber, ever since the reflash was done.

Since the reflash, I can hook up my 5er(9000 lbs+/-), hammer down up a 15 mile long steep Eastern Sierra grade, pull over at the top with a well heat soaked motor, and it will show 40 lbs of oil pressure at an idle. Before the reflash, oil gauge for the same run would be in the lowend of the normal operating range of the gauge. I find it hard to believe that a Cummins engine has 40 lbs of oil pressure at an idle under this situation. Who has a mechanical gauge on their truck than confirm or deny this?

Unfortunatley, once they do the reflash there is no going back. I would suggest to anyone who has this problem to first try replacing the sender themselves. If it doesn't work, you will just be out a few bucks for the sender, you can then let them reflash it. Once it is reflashed, it's a done deal. I wish I had known this a year ago.

Sorry but I'll have to diasagree with ya. I know that is the official DC party line but replacing the sender DOES cure it and doesnt turn the dash gauge into a useless POS(it's cheaper for DC to flash then replace senders, beancounters at their best). I did mine a year ago and did several more for friends and guess what, it worked EVERYTIME!. Don't buy the sender from DC either, the want 189$ Cummins want 69$
