I prefer to use the Valvoline in the blue bottle with the Cummins logo on it, but it's been hard to find up here in my neck of the woods. So, I'm just getting Rotella T 15W-40 at Wal Mart and changing the oil when the oil change reminder comes on, which averages about 3500 miles. Also noticed Wal Mart up here is stocking Mopar Cummins Oil Filters.

Is it really worth the extra time to try to find the Cummins Blue oil or is Rotella T good enough?

Given the amount of oil changes this truck demands (because of the EPA crap), synthetic oil seems like a complete waste of money to me.

Thoughts always appreciated... :)

I believe you can answer your own question by reading the latest article in Issue 76. See Technical topics “Lube Oil-Version 2012" by Robert Patton and John Martin on page 52 through page 56. The Shell Rotella 15W40 came out on top for engine oils, page 55 last paragraph.

Rotella T has been the factory fill for over a year, maybe two since Shell/Penzoil became their supplier.

Now it makes sense why the Valvoline (with the Cummins logo displayed on the bottle) became so hard to find.
