Filter MAG - Anybody tried one?

K&N filter problem

Was under the hood today and noticed that on the upper "lip" of my by pass filter in my Amsoil dual filter system that there was some oil. This is the area that is outside the gasket on the "mating" surface of the filter cartridge. There was enough that I could push it around with a paper towel while cleaning it up. My filter only has about 2500 miles on it and was tightened to the spec given by Amsoil which is one full turn passed contact and then back off 1/8". Has anyone else had this problem in the past? Seem to me that I have seen posts on it but cant find them.

Also I checked the gasket prior to install and it was normal, there was no scratches in the filter head surface and this is the first filter that was on it so there is no possibilty of another gasket.

Anyone else getting tired of problems with there Amsoil dual bypass. Anyone want to make an offer on mine LOL.

Thanks in advance.

I have the AMS/OIL dual by-pass set up on my "01 and after about 15,000 miles I notice a little bit of oil film in the area you are talking about, but it is nothing I would get excited about.

I will relate this story that when I first did the installation I made a mistake and ended up with oil running around on top of the filter..... I thought I would be cute and put the attachment bolts in upside down from the way the instructions said to do it because it would look "cleaner"..... it looked cleaner and it allowed the filters to spin on and even snug down, BUT unknown to me at the time, the filters were snugging against the bolt heads and the filter gaskets were not truly sealing! After running this way for a week and seeing the oil leakage, I took the filters off and saw the problem. I took out the bolts and installed them as per the instructions (even tho they don't look as "clean" this way!) and I have had no more problems... only very minor oil film that catches dust.

Not saying you made the same installation error that I made, but it might be worth looking to see if your filters are contacting the mount or mount bolts/nuts in any way that would prevent the filter gaskets from truly sealing.

If you have oil 'pooling' on top of the filter, you might not have the filter tight enough. I noticed this when I first installed my dual remote.

The trick, I think, is to ensure the mating surfaces are very clean and pre-oiled with fresh oil. Also, the adapter can sometimes have ... imperfections. Whatever the instructions are for tightening the filter, be sure to follow them. One of the Amsoil filters is to be 'tightened until the gasket touches the adapter, then turn one full turn more. " The other I think just requires 1/8 turn after contact.

I haven't had any noticeable leakage since that first filter, though.
