How frequently should oil be sampled for extended drain periods. I run Amsoil 15w40 HDD and dual by pass filter. I am coming up on my first drain ( 1000 miles to get all the gunk out that synthetics loosened up). When should I take my first sample after that and then how often after that? I realize that there is no hard and fast rule on this but respect the great minds of TDR.

ALso how often should I change my full flow filter? I use the Amsoil SDF 26, I'm thinking every 5k. How about my by pass filter, I use the Amsoil BE100? I'm thinking once a year (about 15K give or take, for me). Let me know if there is any other info that u need prior to answering.

Only other info I can think that would be of use is that most of my trips are fairly short, but usually always get to 190 on temp and let thermo open before shut down. I also let pyro go under 300 before shut down, 99% of the time.

Thanks in advancem

It all boils down to a personal comfort level.....

If you plan on filter (full-flo) changes @ 5000 mi. do an oil sample at that time, and when you are satisfied with those results, move up to 7500 or 10,000 mi. I am running 7500 between oil samples now an feel pretty comfortable.

I sampled every 7,500 miles at first. I now change the full flow filter at 10,000 miles and the oil and filters at 20,000. I sample at the same 10,000 mile intervals when the filters are changed.

I change full flow at 6000 and sample. Bypass at 20,000. Will change oil when sample results show it has problems.

I am using Amsoil products like yourself. I did one oil sample back around 10K miles and it was so good at 6000 miles I haven't done another.

I change my filter (I use a full flow also) every 3000 miles and change my oil at ~6000 miles (+/- 250 miles).

Just added info: I change my fuel filter every 5K unless my pressure gauge indicates that it is dirty. I only got about 500 miles out of one, must have gotten some really nasty fuel.

Just my 2cents

Andy
