Need some help. I need to change my oil sender. I have a new replacement, and it appears that it takes a 1-1/16 deep socket to remove/install. Problem is that when I try to get the socket on the old one, it has inadequate clearance to go on straight. It seems to bind up against the power steering pump. So I ask has anyone replaced this before, and whats the secret to getting it out . Its in a pretty awkward spot , and im trying to take it out from above, instead of working underneath. Thanks for any help.

I bought one of the 1 1/6" sender sockets to replace mine. It was short enough to clear everthing. A standard socket is probably a little too long. I replaced mine from the top. I can't rmember what it costs, but it wasn't very expensive.

I bought it a local auto parts store. Most sender units are 1 1/6". The corners are actually rounded to match the sending unit. I think it was $7. I can check to see if there is a manufacturer and part number on it when I get home tonight. The NAPA website has one for $7. 49, part # SER2569. It is 3 inches long. www.napaonline.com
