Guys,

Could someone please with TSB 09-07-96 performed (fuel injection pump oil supply bushing oil seepage) check the attached picture and let me know if this was performed to my truck? The local Dodge dealer wasn't helpful looking up the VIN (1B7KF26C5 RS577600) for TSBs done to it.

The oil leaks appears to be coming from it. I originally thought it was the oil pressure switch, but the oil was found on the side of the injection pump.

The part to fix it - 4874879 was quoted to me for whooping $72! This is for a 1/4" diameter bushing and a 'tool' to take the old one out. I almost fainted.

I went to the local Bosch repair facility, but they couldn't help me find the right bushing.

If I can't find it cheaper, can I just coat the threads of the oil supply line fitting with the Aviation Permatex and call it a day?

If someone has the part, I'd be happy to buy it from you or trade you the O-ring kit for repairing the vacuum pump (comes with a DVD). The only thing missing there is the vacuum pump to the engine gasket.

Thanks in advance.

Go to a cummins shop they will sell parts to you cheeper than DODGE. Also you might get more info at the CUMMINS shop==GOOD LUCK

blackbear, thanks for the suggestion. I went to Cummins West here in Bakersfield and the guy couldn't locate any part numbers for this bushing in the Cummins catalog. Since his store doesn't cross reference the Dodge parts, he couldn't help. He suggested going to the Bosch inj. pump repair place to find that part. I've been there as well. The Bosch guy told me that it was the Dodge part and had nothing to do with the pump. Dead end.

Would the permatex thread sealant be enough to stop the leak? How high is the pressure there?

Thanks!

The pressure there is probably close to system oil pressure. Is it leaking at the tubing or the adapter fitting where it threads into the injection pump?... If its a strainght thread type fitting, pipe sealant isnt the right thing to use, it should have a sealing washer (usually made of copper or some other soft alloy) or it might be cut for an o-ring. If its a pipe thread, thread sealant (ptfe) is ok to use. If you use pipe thread tape, make sure to wrap it the right way around the fitting.

Looks kinda like the tubing side of the adapter is JIC, not sure though. If the oil is leaking on that side, pull the adapter and check the flare seat for errosion or damage. Those type of fittings are very common, you can usually find stuff like that at hydraulic shops. Swagelock, Parker and others make hydraulic fittings of that type. Good luck. .
