I would like to change from Amsoil to an oil that I can get locally. I've searched the threads w/o much help. I want to stay synthetic but I have no idea which brand. I just know I'm tired of having to order oil. I do like the Amsoil - any help would be appreciated.

A popular oil is Delvac 1. It is in many truck stops and truck centers such as Detroit Diesel, Freightliner, Volvo, etc. I get it locally from an independant distributor.

Cummins shops have Valvoline synthetic.

Wal-Mart and other retailers have Rotella synthetic. A bad lot earlier this year caused a big stir on the threads and I think scared off a lot of users. Not sure how the quality is today.

I wish my local NAPA had Royal Purple products. I really want the synthetic power steering fluid.

Delvac 1 and Amsoil are in a different class of synthetics than Rotella syn. and Premium Blue syn. They are all very good oils, but some would argue the Delvac 1 and Amsoil are superior to others mentioned. I do not know the base oil of the Royal Purple, but I assume it to fall in the same category as Delvac 1 and Amsoil.

Delvac 1 should be very easy to get at any Mobil dist. in your area. You can also buy it at Caterpillar shops. It is rebranded to CAT DEO 5w40. If you go the route of Rotella Synthetic 5w40 or Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w40 be careful what you pay. These oils should be sellig for less than $15/gallon.

IF you order the amsoil from a telephone, and have it delivered to your door, how much easier could it be?
