I just ordered and received an oil (or transmission) gauge kit from TST. They say it can be used for either application, but they don't say where to place the sending unit. I have a 5 speed, so I don't really need a transmission temp gauge. Does anybody have any experience insstalling an oil temp gauge in an first generation Dodge?
Thanks for any and all help,
Steve Marley

Steve the oil pressure sending unit is on the drivers side of engine behind the injection pump. NAPA carries a 1/8 npt tee that has female threads on two ends and male threads on the other end. Unscrew the pressure sending unit, screw the male end of the tee into the engine block and the two sending units into the female ends of the tee.

Gene,
Thanks for replying to my question. I hadn't thought of the oil pressure sending unit location since I have already installed a T fitting at the location you mentioned to accommodate my Amsoil bypass filter. I'll have to look at my installation again. Maybe I'll add a T to my T.
Again, many thanks for your insight.

Steve there is anther oil port on top of the oil filter housing. It has an 1/8 npt plug. It's next to the oil line going to the top of the turbo. This is where i'm feeding my by-pass filer from. My by-pass filter is bolted on the passenger side engine compartment next to the ac drier. I've run the return line back to the top of the oil filler cap, drilled a hole thur the center of the cap and then used a swivel fitting so the cap still spins on and off.

Gene,
I had looked at that port and wasn't sure if I could use it or not. Thanks for letting me know. I wish I had written sooner though, as it sounds like your bypass installation is a bit cleaner than mine. I added a "T" behind the fuel injection pump, mounted the filter assembly below the battery on the drivers side and returned at the oil filler cap as you described. Oh well, a bit more oil line strung through the engine compartment, but it works very well.
I'll hook up the sending unit and gauge tomorrow.
Thanks again for the great tip.
