I have an Autometer trans temp gauge and sender that I used on the auto transmission on my old truck. I would like to use it measure oil temp on the new truck. I would like to install the the sender in the port on the top of the oil filter mount. The sender is 1/8" NPT male, it is about 1/2" long below the base of the threads. Will the length of the sender present any problems installed in this location? I don't want to restrict and/or obstruct oil flow.

Thanks,

Dave

I used a VDO engine oil sender that was closer to an inch long. I too, was a little conserned. I took a tour of Cummins West and while I was there I showed one of the mechanics the actual sender. He said, "not a problem as that is what the port was designed for". Still not being a "true" believer, I got a depth gauge and probed around in there myself. There is a whole reservoir in there and the sender will not restrict any flow. Check for yourself, and only install it after you are convinced! Good luck, ;)
