After detailing the interior of my truck in the garage yesterday, i noticed two drops of oil on the garage floor. Looked underneath truck w/ light and saw drops of transmission fluid on transmission bolts. transmission pan also was wet. Also found oil leaking from some kind of cooler by the oil filter. Took it to the dealer (warranty) this morning. They called and said they re-sealed the transmission pan and had to order another cooler. They also did the hvac recall. Anyhow, just letting everyone know in case the cooler and transmission pans become a problem. No mods on my truck other than a k&n air filter and bfg km2 35/12. 50/17's.

Man do yourself a favor and lose the K&N!!!!!

Mac:cool:

Glad they are taking care of it, and x3 on ditching the k&N. Nothing like spending 40K+ on a truck to trash the turbo/engine.

I know all the "experts" don't like the K & N filters, but I've had one on my '96' for around 10 years and 150,000 plus miles with no problems. The still installed silencer ring is still clean and dry - no oil.

I know this is an old subject so I'm not trying to restart an old war, just saying there are two sides.

P. S. I now have a little over 297,000 miles on the old truck.

Go take a look at any excavator, loader, bulldozer or portable air compressor, and see how many are using oil wetted mesh air filters.

If the K&N was that good of a filter, all these applications would be using it.

Exactly, an oiled filter is great in very dusty environments, but K&N are crap! I will never use one, I have never seen them leave an intake clean and free of dust, and I have used other oiled and non-oiled filters that don't let anything by.

The %age of folks who have good luck with them is very low. I have a number of friends that ran them on their rigs until we pulled the intake and it was dirtier than the underside of the truck. That is the common result. Combine that with a turbo spinning over 100K rpms, and the air flow we demand and you do damage.

Have you ever held your K&N up to the light, can you see right thru it. . yep, that should be all the data you need not to run them.

I am in the low percentage. I have used them for years and in many different vehicles, not one problem. I have had one in my truck since it was just a baby. Here is the oil analysis sheet with three tests done over it's life. The last silicone count was three ppm. I can live with that.

I have over 415 kmiles on my 96, been running K&N air filter all that time, not dirty/dusty in the intake and runs a lot better than it did when new.
