I am new to the Register so please be kind.
I just purchased my second Ram Diesel and concluded a 140,000 mile experiment using Castrol GTX 20W-50. I know it is not Diesel engine rated and have heard all kinds of horror stories about the ill effects not using the proper lubricants can cause. My first Ram was a '94 and was purchased new and delivered 20 to 25 mpg and consumed no oil between changes 4000 mi intervals. I would like to continue using the same oil, but all I have read is making me afraid to do so. Let the replys begin.

Diesel oils are designed with extra detergency for soot control and TBN high enough to combat acid, which is a problem with heavy duty diesel engines. Do not use an oil that is not rated for your truck. It is real important.

We use Dello 400 in all 15 of our diesel engines(3 generators and 12 trucks). There may be better, but we have had no problems.
