On page 136 of issue 54 Joe Donnelly staights that if you run with a CI-4 oil and the new ULSD fuel in pre 07 motors that you will have to modify your engine oil change schedule?? But then he doesn't say what changes are in order.

Why would you need a change and what is the change??

I just picked up the issue and read the article again. it says for 07 trucks.

The way I take it is that the 07 trucks with all the emissions systems need the CJ-4 and the ULSD.

I believe the change to CJ-4 oil is needed in 07 trucks with the 6. 7l engine.

But someone wiser than I will chime in.

I have a 06 truck. Maybe your right , it says pre 07 OIL with ULSD. Oo. So With 06 and back trucks, CI-4 oil and ULSD there should be no changes nessesary :) :)

The '07's that are 5. 9 engines are fine with the former oil specifications, as stated, it's only the 6. 7 that requires the new specs. Not all 07's are the 6. 7 engine, some are still our adorable little 5. 9's. :)

I'm surprised this thread hasn't drawn more attention!

On page 11 of the same issue, Mr. Martin states that the CJ-4 oil are backward compatible, but because they contain less detergent, oil change intervals should be shortened accordingly. This is referring to pre-2007 engines. Again, no specific change interval suggested.

He also states if your have an engine without DPF (pre-2007), use CI-4 oil.

I just bought a case of Rotella T at Sam's Club only to find it is CJ-4, CI-4 Plus. I read the above article one day after I had put this oil in my '05. I wish I would have known, but however, this was the only Rotella they had at Sam's. Is CI-4 going to be tough to find?
