I'm thinking of switching from amsoil 15-40 to rotella T6 5-40. Will that cause problems to my engine?Wamart has the rotells T6 for 21. 36 a gallon. I don't mind paying for the amsoil,it's the shipping I can't swallow. Has anyone done this switch?I don't want to start an oil war. Thanks!

I see no reason not to use what you want. I don't recall any threads where oil has damaged the Cummins. 5/40 might be a little light weight for the heat of the summer.

I ran the rotella 5-40 for 65,000 miles before i switched to Amsoil, It is good oil, know what you mean about the price for S&H, I get my Amsoil from a friend who drives over to the warehouse every week, all i have to do is go by his place when i'm going to Dallas and pick up a good supply, i just don't have to make a special trip is all, otherwise i would still be running Rotella, you will be alright switching to Rotella, Good Luck, Monte

I would think the question should be, should I use C-J4 rated oil, or C-I4. The J4 is the new oil that is required for the emission controlled trucks. The have removed the calcium and potassium and other things that cause ASH in the Diesel Particulate Filter. But it also removes lubricity. I would look for oil that is still rated C-I4. Since you don't have a DPF, you don't need to use the oil that has less lubricity. Here is one example.

How often do you change the oil? The oil in an '03 will last a long time. I use Amsoil series 3000 5/30 in my signature truck and even after 18K miles, it's nowhere near the end of its life. If you're changing it too often, you're just throwing away $.

We use Amsoil For decades and paid the higher $ Per Gallon, We No longer could justify the Price and switch to Schaeffer's 9000 Ams S3000 is close to $40. 00 Per Gallon Schaeffer 9000 $26. 00 Per Gallon, Its close to 3 years with Schaeffer I'm clad I made the Switch. Ams is good but they are pricing themselves out of the market, its good But NOT that good.
