I recently bought a 1999, Ram 2500 with 94K on it. There is a hose which comes from the oil fill cap, goes down to a filter. On the filter it says OILMASTER. From the OILMASTER filter another hose goes up to the stock oil filter. or you could say the hose originates from the stock oil filter, then goes to the OILMASTER filter and to the oil cap. Can any one tell me what this system is and or what is the benefit. Is there a website with more informaiton, i've done a search and cant come up with anything. . Thanks for any help

How can a hose originate from the 'stock oil filter?"

Do you mean the 1/8 npt plug on the top of the filter housing mounted to the engine? If so, then you are probably looking at a poor man's bypass oil filter as the oil flow would be from the filter housing outlet port to the "Oilmaster" filter which then dumps the oil to the oil fill cap / ie into the engine.

If the 'Oilmaster filter' if filtering down to 1 micron, your engine oil should stay cleaner a lot longer as it should be taking out some of the soot that builds up in the diesel oil system.

Cheers,

Yes it comes off of the filter housing not the filter itself. I guess I have 2 questions now. The first is, does it really add that much to the filtraton process and does it add any other value, and if it really is no big deal would just capping off the 1/4 NPT nipple return the system to stock or do I need to rout the line elswere.

Thanks
