I think I am convinced to go back to 285 or 265 tires. With my 3. 54 gears I am lugging the motor trying to run 55 mph in od 1350 rpm especially while towing with my 315 tires. Running out of od at 55 I am at 1900rpm. I usually pull loads under 5000 lbs but it pulled better with the smaller tires. I have 10-15k to go on these yet. Anyone else gone through this??? Also these speeds are from my gps as the speedometer is obviosly off.

I had 285's on my '98. 5 with 3. 54 gears and constant camper load. That was with Mach 1. 6 injectors and an EZ. When the DTT would lockup,it was plenty of load. 315's look great, but would have killed my power and economy. I'm going to replace my 285's on the new one with same.

Yea its seems ok when I am running at 55 -60 mph but as soon as someone is poking around in front of me at 45-50 I doesnt want to drop out of OD and starts to lug so I am manually takining it out of OD. Sometimes I wish it had a gear in between 3rd and OD gear.

Yea, I ran a set of 305's and they sucked. I went back to 285's and they are OK. Toyo M/T's Load Range E. At least they don't take as much gear out of the truck.

265,s. smaller= quieter, better ride, better mpg. bfg,s at rock in snow too. have 70k on mine. one more winter and i,ll spree for new ones.

sounds like 285's are the way to go on my h2 wheels. I think the 265's would work too but I have seen quite a few w/285 and they fill the wheel well up nice but not too much. And I think I will stay with the BFG all terrains, I have been very happy with them. Thanks for your replies on your experiences with the different size tires.

I made that mistake too----2 month later 315's TOYO's sold and 285 BFG"S back on. Going the same size(roughly 33 inch) on my 2007 Mega DRW 4x4 once i chew the stockers off by spring. Tires/ladder bars/tonneu cover/DSS brace---- thats it for 2010 year, then start saving for the DTT transmission by 2011.

Did BFG fix thier problems with the 285's. Several years ago, i ran a set of BFG 285 AT's , and they all split open at about 22,000 miles. I was told by a tire store owner that he had seen several sets of this size BFG's go bad. Randy

No problems with the ones on the truck in my sig-----yet only 8 years old:-laf(put them on the week i got the truck),they have about 32,500miles on them,(40% life left),about the same current mileage on the 01 truck, not my daily driver---thats what the 2007/and or company vehicles are for. ;););)DW.

bfg a/t are some of the best snow tires u can run. being a snowmobiler in washing state ive gottin into and out of alot of sticky/steep and dangerous places. bfg seem to always get me home. just my . 02:-laf

I prefer the 285. My truck has the 354 gears as well. I run a Michellin, basically street tread and did not noticed a big difference between 265 & 285. When I tow it is typically heavy and I kick the OD off. 95% of my driving is on flat ground, running 70-75 so I may not have a fair representation. I will say my truck has NO idea what gear it wants to be in at exactly 45 mph... up-down-up-down-up-down. lol
