By bodily damage I mean to your personal body Ie limbs fingers etc. This happened to me twice now. I know I know stay the heck away from me while I am working on my truck as bodily harm may befall you.

First time was when I put on my MagHytec front diff cover. Got her all buttoned up and jump up off the floor and took a sort of jumping step to get to the lube on the bench and tripped over my floor jack handle. Did a major face plant on the garage floor. Saved my face by putting down my hands but broke one of my hands in the process. The wife literally laughed at me and called me a DA and said thats what you get for working on your truck so much. Then later as the pain was getting worse she took me to the urgent care clinic for the tell tale xray and splint.

Then just about a week ago I was changing out my radiator/heater/and charge air boots. While doing the last ones; changing out the two heater hoses taking off the old ones and to get the pliers up to the fire wall to get the clamps off. I was on my tip toes standing on a milk crate stretched out just as far as I could be one hand holding up the insulation so that I could get the pliers on right and the other one working the pliers when all of a sudden the milk crate slipped right out from under me. Which has happened many a time (so dont use milk crates) but usually I can catch the crate with one of my feet to stop it before it goes to far or catch myself with one of my arms. This time being outstretched so far and on my tip toes no go. Came crashing down on my ribs and at a minimum bruised them if not cracked a couple of them.

Both of my DA experiences have been painful and to make matters worse I knew the milk crate was dangerous as it has slipped on me many times.

Am I the only DA on here or are there others as well?

You mean we are not supposed to get hurt when we work on the trucks? Heck, I thought it was normal to draw blood as I seem to do that every time I do anything on it!

Door closed on the fingers, huge bruise on the tricep from getting the arm pinched by the wheel on the creeper, was prying a control arm loose on the front end and the prybar slipped and hit me on top of the head. :{ These are just the last two times I worked on it. The list goes on and on! :-laf

Paccool,

Me too on the drawing blood thing! Worst for me was when I was changing the exhaust manifold. Went to put the new ATS one on by myself while others just watched and got my arm trapped in there somewhere. Mind you, I had to take the manifold, turbo, and downpipe out as an assembly because one of the turbo mounting bolts would not come off so it was fairly heavy.

During this process, I dropped several tools on my head/face, bloodied many knuckles and generally wore myself out. I was really sore for a few days after that.

I have a "blood brother" relationship with my truck. As long as I give it some of my blood periodically, it's happy.

Hopefully, the condition doesn't worsen to where I have to give it transfusions.

I've only worked on the truck once injury free (usually just cuts and scrapes or stupid crap in my eye's  ) but I did the ball joints 3 days after having screws and bone chips removed from my ankle  . I think the truck was satisfied that I was screwed up enough without adding to it, or it figured I had enough advil and vicoden in me that I would not care :D .

Well I nearly Crushed my chest trying to catch the 205 t-case as it fell off the jack, and messed my wrist up taking the trans out when my Air Ratchet didnt release that was just a bad weekend

hit my thumb with a 4lb sledge trying to get my front axle u joints out, my 4 ton matco press couldn't budge them, so I had to resort to force. Wound up bending both parts of the right front shaft (stub and axle), but I straightened them on the big shop press. Also, same job, broke one of the new u joints in half trying to press it in before I realized I had bent the shaft! I was a wee bit mad when I was trying to put it back together, so I wasn't being gentle when I broke the joint.

When pulling my flywheel for resurfacing I was faced with the option of dropping it to the asphalt on the starter ring or suffering painful hand injuries by catching the flywheel and getting the hand hammered between it and the bellhousing.

Since the hand is cheaper to fix, it took the brunt. :-laf

Believe it or not I did this to my thumb while installing gauges on my pillar. I had the drivers side pillar off and was drilling it with a hole saw on my drill press (no center bit in the saw I had misplaced it :( )

The hole saw bit into the plastic and pulled my thumb into the saw. I took the time to snap the picture while I was waiting for a ride to the ER to get sewn up.

OK I could have done without that! Dang, remind me never to work around you guys - you all seem pretty intense! :-laf I'll admit that I've been hit on the head my share of times with various parts, and drawing blood comes with the territory - but I've never tried to hole-saw my finger off!

:-laf :-laf :-laf This has to be one of the funniest threads I have read in a while.

When I was installing my new light bar, I fell off the bedrail of the 3500 backwards, landed on the concrete, and quite literally knocked myself out. I now look like this -----> all the time due to the loss of brain cells.

:-laf :-laf :-laf

every time I work on my truck I at least skin my knuckles. The worst that I have done is to twist my ankle stepping off the front bumper and coming down on an air hose while doing shocks and springs.

Working on my truck... . only had one real mishap..... I was pulling the rear drive shaft out so I could pull the T-case and the OD section of my transmission. I took the rear 4 bolts out for the U-joint, then proceeded to pull the center hanger bearing loose... . I thought I had a good hold on it... ... . BAM... Knocked me out when it swung down and hit me square in the forehead. Only a small bump and cut were the obvious results. No headache afterward either.....

The good one for me was when I was working at the Mercedes-Benz Dealership... . I was installing valve guides in a DOHC inline 6. I was crusin along pretty good. I had my bigist ball peen hammer swingin away, got the burn goin in the right forearm... . bing bing bing bing splat..... missed the drift completely... . I had my thumb sitting solidly on the top of the head... . hit the top of my thumb... had a hairline fracture just behind the knuckle, and needed 3 stitches on the bottom side! WHOOPS!

I hear that Brother. I was on a milk crate 2 weeks ago reaching in and the dang thing kicked out and my belly landed on the adjustable rubber hood bumper that are on the crossmember above the radiator. I had a stop sign shaped hickey on my belly for like a week :-laf
