The Real Rules of the Road, or How to Drive Like a Genuine Idiot

74 Pontiac Grand Prix - previously owned by Satan. Came with demons, spooks, ghosts etc. This car left me stranded more than anything else I have ever owned. 10 alternators including one I had to take off the car while it was running. The clock kept running after it was out of the dash. I enduro'd it and watched it get flattened by a crusher. YES!

93 dodge ram in sig, because of its dang brakes.

88 toy 4x4 xtra cab, PO did no maintance other then gas and oil, had 120,000 on it towed pretty heavy by PO, and I decided I would take care of it, only for it decide to slip a rod bearing. not bad, but i sent i on its way. drove it a yr and half, made money after i sold it. so worst or a good one?

?? dodge omni first car, cause i beat the crap out of it and burnt the clutch out of it in 8 days after i got my license, MY FAULT. Next is its dang unibody makeup and front W drive crap and making hard impact with a slightly taller then normal curb and breaking the frame to suspension mounts. Part my and manufactures fault. hot rodding a omni around is priceless. LOL

The worst vehicle, by far, out of ~25 vehicles I have owned, was a Plymouth Voyager (Dodge Caravan). It was a total piece of crap. The engine was a total gutless dog and it handled worse than a cardboard box with shopping cart wheels. This was the only other Mopar product I had ever owned. It was an experience that had me swear I would never own a Chrysler product again as long as I lived. Most of my other vehicles were Chevys and Fords and I had good luck with all of them.

You probably get the picture that I did not like Dodges, but luckily I found one with a Cummins that changed my mind. So far my Ram has been THE BEST out of all of the vehicles that I have owned.

Crow don't taste all that bad. especially with lots of horseradish sauce. LOL

I've only driven two vehicles, and only owned one.

A 1993 dodge ram that I own now, and a 1991 Chrysler LeBaron that I "borrowed" from my grandma after she got her 2001 Jimmy.

The LeBaron was a really nice car... kind of a mid size luxury car. It was my grandma's old car that I drove until I got my truck the summer after I got my lisence. My grandma let me keep the money that she got from selling the car to put towards my truck. I got my truck for a little over 7k.

The LeBaron never gave me any troubles, but my truck does.

I guess that means that my truck is the worst I've ever owned! :D

No Doubt about it and it was a DIESEL -

NO NOT a GM 5. 7 - BUT A 1978 PEUGEOT 504 Wagon!!! I could go on and on - what a terrible car..... AND to think I even bought another one - YES I DID LOOSE MY MIND!!!! Thinking I couldn't possible have as much bad luck - sounds like I should own a FORD doesn't it? None of them I bought new - BUT they were relatively low mileage - but terrible AND GUTLESS. Like 45 TOPS on the Grapevine (Up I-5 from LA)... . Kind'a reminded you of an early VW BUG..... Just thinking about that car makes me ILL!!!!

Can't decide between:

1978 Plymouth Volare... ran ok but what a freakin' rust bucket.

1988 Ford F-150... gas hog big time (6 cyl 5 spd) and try to keep the emissions working... ... . yea right. Oh yes, on a fairly quiet night you could hear it rusting away.

My worst vehicle would be a 1993 full size FURD F250 pickup with the 460 engine. I used it to tow our 5th wheel and EVERY 100 miles it would go thorough 1 quart of oil! Emmisions were perfect, No smoke at all at any time, no leaking on the driveway... ... ... . Could not figure were all that oil was going. I took it to the Ford dearler thinking that they could figure out this mystery and they couldn't either. They put dye into the oil and used a floresent light to see if I was having a blowby problem under the truck when towing..... no sign of that. I traded it in and got the Dodge that I love now. Just on a 400 mile trip I would go through 1 GALLON of oil!

Jay, ......how's about that model "T" you drove

They didn't even have cars then. We sat around the fire and chipped flint in the evening.

My worst vehicle was a simi. Any make or year. They come with so much govt regulation that it isn't worth the effort. When the one tons get pulled into the net, I will no longer be on the road. If anyone wants to follow this thought, please take it to the "other" forum. I don't want to corrupt this one.

1995 chev 3500 turbo diesel. every trip i took it was on the side of th road comming or gaing. some times booth ways. i owned for a yr.

A 1973 Gremiln. Short wheel base rough riding POS. It had a bad habit of spitting the exhaust system out from under the car. The rough ride broke exhaust hangers all the time. :(

1990 Dodge Dynasty - a/k/a the Die Nasty!

Bought it as a dealer demo w/6000 miles on it. Dumped it after 6 months & 4000 miles after:

Total bottom end rebuild due to a soft crank

More issues with the ABS brakes than I can remember

Windshield replaced because it was coming unglued along the bottom

Steering col. replaced due to bad bearings... .

All of the problems were due to manufacture issues, not abuse by the first driver - who was the wife of the dealership owner.

All of my Mopars since have been relatively trouble free. That one was just plain bad!

this is a great thread,

Well as for the ford 460, I have seen several that burned oil consistanly. I in the early 90's used to do vehicle matainence for several contractors and worked on several fairly new 460 fords that all burned oil. If you look in the owners manual ford even recgonizes the problem and says that 1 quart every 700 miles is normal. .

My worst was a 1994 Ford Tauras my wife owned when we got married, 3 years old with less than 40k miles, I had pulled every door apart for electrical issues, Transmisson always acted as if it was 2 steps from exploding. and when the rubber heater hose that was routed under the EGR, burst in the middle of Tennesse I could have put a bullet in it. All this in a 3 year old car with less than 50k... . (replaced with a Toyota Land cruiser ten times better vehicle)

As for the worst vehicle I have ever dealt with wasn't owned by me but a relative and I worked on it enough. A Cadallic 4-6-8 . Even when it ran it correctly it was a peice of junk... . (replaced with a toyota camary)

I am still amazed with auto manufacturers and what they will market and sell. The vast majority of the buying public has no idea what problems a particular type of car/ truck has or will have. I have never bought a vehicle that didn't have a 5 year track record for the body and drive train. All of my vehicles are the last in a series or body style. The reason being by the time a body and drivetrain has been built for several years and all the bugs are worked out... .

1972 Ford, Pinto Wagon. Need I say more. Oh, I will what a P. O. S. Oh did I say what a P. O. S. it was.

- #1) 1996 F-250 PSD. Never ran right. ever. Spent almost $10,000 in 30 months on too many items to mention, all engine or driveline related. Love those HEUI injectors!

- #2) 1993 K2500 6. 5TD. Ran great for the first 125,000 mi. (other than low power), but needed two top end rebuilds in the last 14 months. Spent 8,500. 00 and the paint is falling off in really large chunks.

- #3) ' 82 Chev Monza. too many problems to mention

Best Vehicle I've ever owned: (except my cummins ram, of course!): 1970 442 455 W-30 Coupe. Would spin the tires shifting to 3rd at 105 mph. Once accidentally shifted from 2nd to reverse at 100 mph. After a short stop to clean out my shorts, I was pleasantly surprised that everything still worked perfectly. TH400 and 12Bolt rearend.

1997 Chevy 1500 6-cylinder. Cat converter went out at 97 miles--bought it Friday, took it back in Monday with a glowing cat and the service advisor looked at me like I was really bothering him. The dealer in BR really stunk! Got rid of that truck when I heard humming from the rear axle--traded it for a 2000 Dodge 2500 diesel. I'll NEVER go back to Chevy!!
