I ordered a set of 285/75-16 Yokohama HTS (hwy tread's) on 16x8 alloys & they will fit if you get the right back spacing, unfortunately the wheels they sent are 4" BS, the stocks are 4 1/2", That combined with the 1. 5" wider rim puts the tread of the 285's about 1" outside of the front fender & causes the outside edges of the tire to catch the inner fender or the bottom corner of the lower front bumper cover depending on which way you turn the wheel. 16x8's with 5 1/4" BS should fit fine, or the 285's on my stock wheels should fit although they are really too narrow for the tires. I'm going to Discount tire tomorrow & see what offset they can get, I really like the tires & the look of the truck, but if I can't get a rim to fit properly, I'll return them & go get a set of 255/85's on my stock rims to get the gearing I want.

... and the backspacing on the factory 16x8 alloys is 6. 25" You might want to pick up a set of those instead. Check the TDR classifieds. Yes, the rear drums must be machined slightly for clearance, but otherwise they work just dandy on a 2WD!

Thanks!

Mine's a 98, what's the newest wheels that will fit?

2002 wheels

I hired a welder to do a job at my place and he had 285s on stock 2001 wheels on his 2001 2wd 3/4 ton. It looked great and no rubs anywhere. He said that they're actually his second set of 285s on that truck.

i have a 96 and 4:10's and would love to have a set of 285's on mine. The problem though is i have 265's now and they rub (very little though) My dads truck has 285's and has the aluminum wheels, i'll try to swap them onto my truck and see if they rub.

later

Un-Hemi ,

Thanks for the pics! I knew they'd fit, but all of the aftermarket wheels I've seen had too little back spacing.

I kept the tires, now I need a set of OEM 16x8's.

Yer welcome! There are several sets of OEM alloys in the TDR classifieds. 17-inchers off the 03/04 trucks are starting to show up in the classifieds, so ensure that the ones you look at are 16". You can also check the truck wreckers in your area.

Don't forget to machine the drums! A 1/8" cut off the outside diameter will do it without damaging the integrity of the drum.

If you choose to be really particular, you might purchase the wheel nuts that fit the alloys. They differ slightly from the ones used on the steel wheels, but I'm unsure that the difference is important.

Curtis, the '96 trucks use the same size drum as the 98/99s, so they will require a cut as well.

I just bought a set of '01s complete with lugnuts & centers.

I'm glad I didn't try to make the eagle clones work, they looked ok, but I would've had to butcher the inner fender & trim the corner of the lower plastic bumper cover.

Update, mine are installed & I really like the ride.

I machined the dust/water shield lip ~3/16" & HAD NO INTERFERENCE ANYWHERE. The truck drives great, I like the 10% overdrive & it also has a much beefier look.

Thanks agin to Un-Hemi for the pics & confirmation that they fit very well.
