I found a full 55 gal barrel of this stuff and I was told it is a real good diesel additive from way back when. I don't know anythind about it. Should I use it or use it for starting trash fires.

It might be a Hydrotex fuel additive - http://lubesolutions.com/html/elube.html

Call them / contact them and check the production date and if they feel it is still in useable shape.

From your signature, unless they back the product, I would not put it into a common rail system without checking the product integrity.

If it is a 55 gal metal drum, how was the drum storaged?

If outside, it will expand and sweat (condense water) even in a sealed unopened drum. This could then contaminate the product and also cause rusting on the inside of the metal drum.

Good luck. You either have 'fire water' or a bargain fuel additive.

essientialube

YES I have not only heard of it I have used it. In the early 70s we used it in the diesel trucks that hauled from Colo. to Utah and back. It is a fine additive , just be sure that you have fuel additive and not oil additive. The oil additive is real good to just not in the fuel. On a personal note I used to love the smell of it But the green color is hard to wash out if you spill it. :--)

You gotta be kidding! My wife could smell that stuff as soon as I walked thru the door... I probably would have used more of it but the stench was unbearable if you got it on your clothes or skin. Really good stuff for 2 stroke detroits that developed a miss. Fill the filters with essentiallube and let idle for 10 minutes and almost without fail the motor would pick up and regain that crack in the exhaust that they have when they run good. Didn't really care to work on detroits but this was one 'snake oil' that worked well in that application.

I have a similar barrel

... and would like to use it, but don't see any replys to this older text.

Does this stuff ever go bad if the container is sealed well and no water or rust exposure?

Thanks
