Can somene help me with the exact steps necessary on attaching photos.

The frequently asked section of TDR states:

Uploading Pictures Into The TDR Discussion Forums?

When you post a "new topic" or a "reply," you get a "form" to fill out (on the screen). It asks you for the subject, your text (or message), let's you add smilies, etc.

Look at the bottom of that form, and you will see a function that allows you to "Attach File:".

Click on the "Browse" button, then browse your computer for the picture you want to upload. It canot be larger than 32,000 bytes and must be in one of the following formats: .gif, .jpg, . png, .jpg.

When you submit your post, it automatically uploads the picture you selected into the post for you.

OK - maybe I don't understand - for example I have a photo from my brake assembly that's this size - downloaded from my Canon Digital: (768 KB (786,432 bytes) That appears to be way to big! How do I get it smaller to attach?

ALSO - the search string of requiring 3 words is not user friendly. For example when I tried to do a search for "attaching photos" - what 3rd word should I use? There are countless examples when the 3rd word is not needed nor desireable - from the user's standpoint. Is there a better method?

To get your picture file size down you need to resize the photo to a smaller size (320x200 will definately be under 32k) and save it with compression (50% as a JPG file will not lose any noticeable quality). You can download this program - http://www.irfanview.com/ - which will allow you to do the resizing. If you have Adobe Photoshop or a graphics program that came with your camera you can use that too. You can also upload graphics images to the readers rigs gallery and link to them for a file size up to 122,000 bytes. If you use the readers rigs gallery when you see the pic there is a link at the bottom that says "Forum Codes" - it gives you the exact code to put into your message for the picture to show up.

The search does not require 3 words. It requires each word to have at least 3 characters. You can search on a single word as long as it has three characters - ie you can search on "oil" but you can't search on "bd".

I am no expert but some camera's have several setting for pic size for quality and or "e-mail" this is probably the smallest you will get, now if that is still to big you will need to take pic into a program like photo suite or photoshop to crop, resize or edit to your liking. When I resize pics I can only resize down, if I resize up from a size that was smaller it just distorts it makes it fuzzy this is the only way I know of getting smaller pic for the use on the TDR. Some times the pic is very large and when shrunk down to fit it is not worth posting, there is a way around this I have seen bigger pics I just don't know how that is done.

Good luck

Craig
