Was on a trip to North Dakota with the slide in camper on the back and pulling a 3500 lb trailer. Running against the wind all the way. To maintain 65 mph, was pushing 15-16 psi boost constant, which had EGT's at 1100* for 6 hours or so.

The fresh air side of the turbo has turned a darker color than the original silver. Hope the pistons are OK... .

Seems to be running higher EGT's since putting on the Cummins E-brake--- guess I need 4 in. exhaust. Oo.

As with many things in life, it's probably a matter of degree (no pun intended... ) I think the Cummins could be run up against the gevernor at that temp for WEEKS with no problem... GOOD for it? well, not as good as half that temp at half the RPM - but probably no damage to be concerned about in your situation...

1100 is no problem.

I ran my 96 5sp at 1200 for hours on end hotshotting stock trailers back from KS. On some of the insane loads with lots of wind I pulled the mpg down to below 6. That was 4th gear 2500 RPMS WOT, set the cruise and steer for 700 miles. I have done lots of oil testing in my truck and the sample intervals that had lots of very hard pulling were some of the best.

Get the engine up to temp and keep it there.

These engine like to work. 20psi boost and 1100 EGTs for several hundered miles is really good one and a while.

See... there are other incentives to get your 1/4 mile E. T. down to 10 seconds... other than just bragging rights. You can say that you're operating the engine within its design limits.
