In trying to solve my no start/no run problem (see thread New VP 44 Problems) I've pulled the bed to gain access to the pickup unit. Didn't find any huge amount of crud, but I pulled off the outer pickup screen and the inner one too, so the tube just picks up raw fuel now. This seems to be something that others are doing, but anyone have feedback in the negative??
This is in conjunction with replacing my lift pump with a Carter 4601HP, putting it by the tank and running 3/8 hose with adapters per NCostello's program. I'll use a filter before the pump, so I didn't see a problem with losing the pickup screens.
When the truck died on the road, I replaced the lift pump with a stock replacement from NAPA (Carter), but then got no fuel from it after the VP 44 replacement. NAPA agreed to exchange it for the 4601 HP (Less $$), but the spec for that pump is 18PSI. I figure the PSI going into the VP44 after the stock fuilter will be less, anyone have any experience with the 4601????
