Long Box on Old Dodge Pickups?????

FMS back in truck

there's no flywheel on the back of that engine... you can see the back of the crank...

the inside of the bellhousing is painted blue, and it doesn't look like an SAE bell... marine bell maybe?

The bellhousing is typical, the extra hole is where the air compressor would mount. They also mount the engine from bellhousing and up front rather than from the sides in the middle like Dodge. Only thing that seems odd really is the front sump pan.

Why would anyone rebuild a Cummins engine with only 40,000 miles on it?

Looks just like a 5. 9 I have that came out of a pumping unit. My unit is a 190 horse and had a small hydraulic pump where the vacuum pump/power steering is on our trucks.

have any of you emailed him?

what if the ambulance was in a big wreck? most big companies wouldn't allow the installation of a used engine, so it was rebuilt as a spare...

I realize there's lots of BS on ebay, but I find it humorous that people often discount EVERY ebay ad as pure BS.

I notice a large chip in the tan paint on the #5 valve cover. Paint beneath looks like the same color as the inside of the bellhousing.

It looks like someone sprayed the entire engine with a coat of tan paint without masking anything off except the bellhousing and what looks like the engine data plate. Even the stand it's on was painted, you can see the overspray on the pallet.

The rebuild could be true. Alot of police, fire and emergency service agencies require either new or rebuilt parts just for liability purposes.

Why is the oil pan sump in the front instead of the rear?

If the "Freightliner Ambluance" had a set-back front axle, it would most likey require the use of a front sump pan for clearance issues.

The extra hole on the left side is where the barring device goes. The bellhousing style is typical Freightliner. Front sump pan was used on many applications.

That is not a chip in the paint. It is a small Cummins badge on the #5 valve cover. Thats the way we paint our rebuilt engines.
