Good Diesel Shops near Ely, NV?

Thank you EPA - No more CRD Liberty

Just returned fro a 3-week, 2000 mile RV trip from eastern Oregon to central Cal - total truck/5th wheel combined weight was 14,300 lbs - not terribly heavy by the standards of some RVers on this board, but right at the GVWR for my truck.

Both going and coming - a number of formerly steep grades both in Oregon on Hwy 395, as well as Nevada/California I-80 seem to have mysteriously disappeared!

Ran the truck a bit over 5 MPH above the speed limit, in OD, and CC engaged - and absolutely NO downshifting or attention the the throttle was needed at any time. EGT was at 1000 degrees max, boost on steepest grades ran about 25 PSI - the Cummins never broke a sweat!

I guess the new injectors and exhaust, along with the Comp stacked with the Smarty actually DO work! Crossing the Sierra was NEVER this easy before! :-laf :-laf

OK, Gary. What kind of fuel economy did you get? :)

A bit over 15 MPG, hand calculated - not too bad for a 14K GCW load over the terrain we were traveling on... :D

Sounds like some extra GOOD Fuel Economy! My old 94' would do that, but my 03' will not... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . close but not close enough! :D

Gary,

What turbo are you running?

Jim

Just the stock HX-35 the truck came with - I can max it to about 34 PSI with the Comp and Smarty set to max - but can also pin the Pyro in the process!

But, no need for that much power, even for towing, at least not with our 24 foor 5er - if I really wanted to use all the potential of the Smarty/Comp, I'd need an upgraded turbo - and all the other accompanying mods to go with it - way to much headache for me.

Been on that run with my 4. 5 from so cal to include the cajon pass 395 to Reno, 80 (?) to Boise and then 84 to Portland and all over so washington looking for property then down the coast of oregon crossing over to sacramento from the middle of ca down the 99 and over the Grape Vine back home. What a joy the Cummins torque has pulling the grades and my MPG was 16 overall traveling 3000 miles round trip (sorry amsoilman). The only reason to downshift was to help EGT when climbing and FYI no DMAX or P/S could keep up towing loads, Honest! I was impressed with the power to pass as well as when having to pass the competition on flats as well. Even my wife commented on the ability in the passes, comparing to my old 2500 360 gasser towing boat. BTW 65MPH was avg. , mainly due to Oregon's slow speed limit (55).
