Geez, I just read the article in issue #26 about the warranty. It says " If you use your truck primarily for buisiness or commercial purposes, then these implied warranties do not apply and DC completely disclaims to the extent allowed by law. " How come DC offers a $300 rebate, or a $500 toolbox, or $800 towards a new snow plow, or an extended warranty for a new reg. cab pickup if you can show them a CDL license or prove your a contractor by giving them your 06 number? I selected the extended warranty, a $1300 value. According to this article, commercial or business use isn't covered. Sounds like double talk to me. Regards, bilford.

When I bought my 98 (Nov. 97) I got a $500 contractor's rebate from Dodge. My truck, with a service body and glass rack, is a bit difficult to disguise as a non-commercial vehicle! I've never had a problem with warranty coverage denial. I just wish I hadn't needed the warranty so much (A/C comp-ressor, trans tailshaft leak, pinion seal leak, steering box leak, noisy clockspring).

The TDR article is a little confusing. If you read your warranty book, the subject of "business or commercial use" is addressed on page 4, section 1.

There are essentially two types of warranties "expressed" and "implied".

Expressed warranties are addressed in the warranty book and are very specific to what's covered and for how long AND what the owner has to do to maintain these expressed waranty coverages (like oil and filter changes at specific mile/time intervals!, etc. ) EXPRESS WARRANTIES APPLY TO THE VEHICLE AS SOLD REGARDLESS OF IT'S USE WHETHER IT BE FOR PRIVATE OR COMMERCIAL/BUSINESS USE.

Implied warranties are those things that a reasonable person would conclude should also be warranted and are usually established on a state by state basis. For instance, let's assume you hook up a 9,999# trailer to your factory installed trailer hitch and one day, for some unknown reason, you rip the thing out of the rear of the truck. Now this kind of failure is not mentioned in your warranty book so you would think it is not covered, but since your owner manual claims you can tow up to 10,000# on the factory hitch, you MAY have grounds for a claim because it is "implied" (in your owners manual). You need to check your state laws to see what additional "implied" warranties you may have.

Now Dodge has taken the position that for commercial or business use they will only cover the express warranties in the warranty book and that they are exempt from any and all implied warranties. However, even though they claim that, there is the usual disclaimers at the bottom of the page that say "some states do not allow this exclusion yatta, yatta, yatta... ".

So put that business door sign back on and best of luck in your business endevour.
Ron.

I recently bought a 99 3500 Chassis Cab. I am a Hot Shot driver and use the truck commercially and have not had any warranty problems with the dealer. Too my surprise the dealer had added the extended warranty and I did not notice it until I received it in the mail. It clearly states "Not for Commercial Use". The dealer had the extended warranty cancelled and refunded my money.
