The TDR article is a little confusing. If you read your warranty book, the subject of "business or commercial use" is addressed on page 4, section 1.
There are essentially two types of warranties "expressed" and "implied".
Expressed warranties are addressed in the warranty book and are very specific to what's covered and for how long AND what the owner has to do to maintain these expressed waranty coverages (like oil and filter changes at specific mile/time intervals!, etc. ) EXPRESS WARRANTIES APPLY TO THE VEHICLE AS SOLD REGARDLESS OF IT'S USE WHETHER IT BE FOR PRIVATE OR COMMERCIAL/BUSINESS USE.
Implied warranties are those things that a reasonable person would conclude should also be warranted and are usually established on a state by state basis. For instance, let's assume you hook up a 9,999# trailer to your factory installed trailer hitch and one day, for some unknown reason, you rip the thing out of the rear of the truck. Now this kind of failure is not mentioned in your warranty book so you would think it is not covered, but since your owner manual claims you can tow up to 10,000# on the factory hitch, you MAY have grounds for a claim because it is "implied" (in your owners manual). You need to check your state laws to see what additional "implied" warranties you may have.
Now Dodge has taken the position that for commercial or business use they will only cover the express warranties in the warranty book and that they are exempt from any and all implied warranties. However, even though they claim that, there is the usual disclaimers at the bottom of the page that say "some states do not allow this exclusion yatta, yatta, yatta... ".
So put that business door sign back on and best of luck in your business endevour.
Ron.
