Okie's New Turbo Diesel

Okie wanted me to find him an M2 with the 330 MBZ engine. I located one in Tampa and he stopped by my house on the way back to Texas.

Bet you won't get 20 mpg empty with that, LOL. Definitely the right choice for hauling heavy though.

After 11,650 miles in a three week trip this summer wifey and I were plum whooped at the end of the day. Some of the trailers we got a hold of were at the top of the line for being over-loaded. She told me that I needed to buy a truck that would handle the rigors and weight of what I was doing. I contacted Barry and told him what I had in mind to look for. I showed her the picures Barry sent of this one and asked how bout this one. She liked it and I loved it so I flew to Florida and drove it home. Wifey drove it the next day after getting home with it. I guess after five months and 40K on the clock the Dodge will prolly get retired from heavy hauling. Will use it to go to the farm pulling my 12ft bumper pull trailer with the 4wheeler on it.
Barry, thanks for posting the pictures and finding the truck for me. It is just awesome!:D

I think that you are really going to like the M2 long term. We have a half dozen at work along with a bunch of Int. Durastars. Most of us would much prefer to be in the Freightliners. They are light years ahead in comfort and reliability compaired to the Internationals.

Yep. I'll have to agree and it's tough for an old 30+ year former International truck guy to admit. I saw the trend starting about 15 years and ago and Freightliner has jumped ahead of International in engineering, comfort, reliability, and sales volume. It appears that Navistar/International Trucks upper management folks don't get it... it's amazing, history is repeating. It reminds me of what John Deere did to the I-H Agrucultural Division back in the late 60s.

Truck is an 07 m2buisness class with 82k on it. 330 hp Mercedes Benz engine with 6 spd Allison automatic. 22. 5 aluminum wheels, 4. 63 rear-end. Has bluetooth set up, built in Pioneer navigation system, leather seats with air ride, cab is air ride and rear-end is air ride as well as a dump valve for u nhooking. Has a built in dropdown dvd plasma dvd player. Seat in the back makes to a bed at the push of a button. am, fm with and satellite radio with a 6 disc cd player. Haven't checked fuel milage yet but where I got it to the first stop on the way home I drove over 700 miles on 70 gallon of fuel. Don't know if the seller filled it plum up or not but it was supposed to be. I tried to keep it about 63-64 coming home and the engine was right close to 1700rpm. This was bob-tailin. Has two 50 gallon fuel tanks,(wish they were at least 80 or even a bit bigger would be better). Toyo tires have about 30k on them. Stopped at a truck stop and had the front two balanced and installed a set of Centramatics on the front axle. So far it is just super!!

Spring suspension or is on air?

On Edit: Never mind. I found it in your post. I tried to delete mine, but the forum wouldn't let me for some reason. Anyway, that rear on air combined with the seats etc. will certainly make a difference in how you feel at the end of the day.

One of the things we are beginning to find is the new Dodges, with all the devices required by the Environmental Persecution Agency, are getting less than stellar fuel mileage. Medium duty trucks built prior to 2008, for the most part, are pre emission trucks. Some of these medium duty trucks properly set up will equal the fuel mileage of the new Dodge trucks. We have a 2000 FL 60 with a 3126 Cat set at 300 HP and manual 6 speed gets mid teens in fuel mileage. I suspect Okie's new M2 is going to get real close to what his new Dodge was getting in fuel mileage.

Time will tell... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Okay, I gotta ask. Why did you spec the Mercedes over the ISC? Does it have an engine or exhaust brake?

Okie,

Please provide the last 6 of your VIN, I want to look up the fuel jumper lines and give you the part number so you can purchase one for a spare. They will split on occasion, similar to the Number 4 fuel line thingy on the Common Rail Cummins. A good thing to have with you as a failure means you are done moving until the line is changed.

Will also check for any remaining warranty coverage... ...

Also, who did the conversion??? Is it a Fontaine???

Will e-mail you a build record of at least the basic chassis (depending on who converted it) if you want.

Yes, that was the one that I could not think of. Good rigs. Just be aware that some of the interior and exterior parts are provided by Sport Chassis, not by Freightliner. If you ever need help pinning down what is what please let me know. Glad to help.

Now, for the fuel line. Buy a couple of these and chuck them in your tool box. Current pricing is around $14. 00 each.

Part Number is DDE A9060702433. Any Freightliner Dealer should have some on hand.

This is what they look like, they are under the black plastic beauty cover on the driver's side of the engine... .

Not an easy thing to purchase in the middle of nowhere if you know what I mean.

It has been a good truck. Found two recalls / campaigns which have both been completed. One for a steering arm and the other for a hydraulic brake switch.

Only other events have been a bad low coolant sensor at 30,500 miles and a bad chassis power distribution module that was changed out at 40,397 miles.

Warranty is just about gone, only remaining coverage is for cab corrosion and frame rails, that coverage expires on 10/13/2012. Truck was put in service on 10/13/07.

Mike. :)

Okie,

Send me an e-mail and I will attach the build sheet to it. Easiest way to get it to you.

Just checked the history of the engine itself, no claims at all.

However there is a modification that has not been completed. Call your local dealer, provide your VIN and have them check Modification # 10C5. I show that it has not been completed yet. Should be at no charge to you. It is called "MBE 900 GRID HEATER RELAY CAMPAIGN".
