Can I do this?

There has been some discussion about safely changing a tire on the side of the road. An old timer introduced me years ago to a simple, quick and easy way to change a tire without the danger of crawling under a towed unit.

I call it the "Oklahoma Trailer Jack".

I carry a piece of 2x4 and a block of 4x4. Lay the 2x4 on the block of 4x4 to use as a ramp. Pull the good tire up on the blocks thus suspending the afflicted tire just high enough to change it.

It is safe, quick and easy without having to crawl under the trailer to see what is under there that might bite you. :eek:View attachment 76077

mi dos centavos... .

When I towed a travel trailer or a 5th wheel, I too carried an "Okie trailer jack"; however, I used a 2x8 instead of a 2x4 to fully support the width of the tire. :)

Uncle Bill,

Good idea. At least a 2x6... ... ... ... ... ... . But the only thing I had on the truck yesterday was that short piece of 2x4... ... .....

And, that was a BIGGG 4 horse, 4Star with a 14ft shortwall and an 8' slide out. That old girl was heavy. Glad I was wearing Ricksons with 19. 5s

You will notice in the pix, All the tread pealed off the G rated tire. (Goodfora year)... ... ... . but still held air!... ... ... ..... No damage to the trailer. I was only doing 60 and was able to shut down quickly... ... ... ..... then limp into a rest area a mile away.

The real fun was the fat boy having to climb up the ladder to the hay rack and let the spare down to the ground with a rope... ... ... ..... Priceless. Oo.

EricBu12,

I think that is a picture of a New York trailer jack. Probably is a fancified Oklahoma Trailer Jack.

But ain't it purtty!!

Necessity is the mother of invention!

Nope - - Thats a Chicago Trailer Jack - - - doesn't do anymore than the Okie jack, but it is just like a Chicago Politician, doesn't do any more, but its real expensive and looks pretty.
