Well Guys,
A friend of mine has a 99 PSD and he is always aggrevating me about Ol' Blue so tonight at the local 1/8 mile strip they had a test and tune. Cost $10. 00 to run all you want. We ran twice. Neither of us had been on a dragstip before. Remember, we pull tractor for kicks. I think he'd been blowin' some smoke to his buddies about kickin my tail tonight, but Ol' Blue showed him eventhough I fell asleep on the starting line (1. 229 reaction time!!!)
My first run was against some low rider piece of crap( I ran about 10mph faster than him).
This is kinda long:
A friend of mine who has a son who races junior dragsters told us how this works, how to stage etc. He said you can leave harder than you would on the strip cause the trucks will hook up here. Wrong!!! I did not do a burnout out probably cause it wouldn't spin them up. I stage, watch the lights and pull out. I am used to hearing my truck run , but not here with all these drag cars. I pulled out in 2nd (5 spd 3. 55 open diff) Mash on it and noticed I was not going fast, the tach was at 2900 (governored speed) Spinning right rear bad. Change to third, then to fourth and then it's over. Then my friend in the ford ran ( 3. 73 posi, 6 speed)
Later we came back and ran side by side. He beat me off the line, but I ran faster. This time I lowered the air pressure from 80 to 50. Had been towing the day before and forgot to let the air down. Still spun the tire pretty bad leaving the line.
below are the times for mine and his
first run:
Ol' Blue PSD
reaction time 1. 229 . 969
60 ft 3. 254 3. 162
330ft 8. 028 8. 211
ET@594ft 11. 117 11. 407
1/8 ET 11. 798 12. 110
1/8 mph 66. 06 63. 92
second run: (I slowed down too much tire spin
Ol' Blue PSD
reaction time . 918 . 614
60 ft 3. 169 2. 984
330ft 7. 971 7. 894
ET@594ft 11. 061 11. 053
1/8 ET 11. 743 11. 749
1/8 mph 65. 97 64. 63
I won both runs, but the wheel spin was too much. I may be wrong, but I think I could get in the 70 mph range if I knew what was going on and get it to hook. I don't like abusing Ol' Blue so i shifted just like on the street. My friend in the PSd said he never lifted his right fooot between shifts.
At the end of the day he kept saying, well if we'd ran the quarter or if we were on the street or if..... Then he asks how much my truck weighed..... just enough to outrun your ford I said. You know what's been done to mine, his has a 70 hp superchip. It is a stout truck, but I'm glad Ol' Blue put him in his place eventhough i am not a drag racer. Granted I did not run off and leave him, but it feels good to take the old girl and make the new guys nervous.
What are some good 1/8 mile times and how does this equate to 1/4 mile times. I never got out of 4th gear. I was doing a baseline before buying the powerwagon injectors. I think I am makin the right choice on which ones to buy.
comments are welcome.
thanks
Big Don
P. S. I am not a drag racer but i did stay at a Holiday inn express.
