Poking around the house on a rare day off and came across this sign I squirreled away some years back.
Came from my step-fathers dealership, sold IH products and had Mobil branded fuel. Back in the early 60’s Mobil came right in with pumps, signage, map racks, credit card machines, etc...when you signed on.
This sign was for roadside placement, I have the stand to go with it as well..plus I did get one Mobil gas pump...

Credit card machine back in the 60th?
I'm surprised how advanced thevUS have been back then.
With luck you could have paid for fuel with a card in the 90th in Switzerland.

It’s double sided, and back side is in equal condition. I don’t think he put it out in the weather for very long, if at all.

It was always upstairs in the dealership as far back as I can remember...

I can remember the Maine State Police and County Sheriffs having keys to the front door so they could get gas during the night....no 24 hour stuff back then..

Cools stuff, Mike. My uncle was a partner in a Mobil station, so that stuff brings back a lot of memories for me.

Not a machine like you are thinking of Ozy. I’ll see if I can find a picture...

Must be an imprinter for the old Mobil fuel cards??? They were shorter left to right than a conventional credit card receipt(more square format).

Yes, that’s right!! They were shorter. I have some down to the other garage. I’ll check them next time I go down..

And then the card pops out of the holder and on the second pass of the two pass process "un"embosses the card - flattens it very nicely. No magnetic strip. Not useable next time...weeks to get replacement...oops.;):rolleyes:

And writing in or checking the product box, unit price, units sold, total charged...and getting signature on a rainy day. May as well been on TP
We had the special little clipboard thingy that you handed to the customer with a pen, but you had to remember to keep it upside down when it was raining. No booth on the pump island, so had to ran back and forth to the counter inside.

I’ll get one when I go down. It’s a Tokheim pump but does not have the Mobil that lights up. The Diesel pump we had did light up but didn’t get it spoken for in time.

Pretty close to this one..

I might have that, I’m going to look for it tomorrow..
