All,

With all the hype of ULSD, I am wondering, is it necessary to actually mix a lubricant additive to the ULSD we are all running now? Now and again, I sneak a little red go-go juice (no 1) in the tank. But due to the fact i am not doing too much HE work off the military, I wanna make this truck last forever. Should I start mixing 2cycle oil or Marvel in every tank to extend the VP? Has this actually scientifically been proven? If so, what are the recommended lubricants, or is this a "are you a Chevy or Ford man?" type deal? I think that if needed, this info should be disseminated to the widest band of us older diesel jocks out there..... thanks in advance,

Regards,

John

I've got 177k+ and always use an additive. Now there's two different schools of thought - no help at all, huh. Basically, if you use a decent name brand additive you can't hurt the VP by using it. I used to run #2 home heating oil and add 1/2 quart of trans fluid every fill up and I've run tank fulls of the ULSD with no additives so ??? I'm sure someone with real scientific info will have something to add sooner or later.
