I installed Mike's - Old Smoky's - Fuel Pin today with the followin results:

Under lite to moderate acceleration there is less smoke and good throttle responce.

Under WOT this puppy really preforms and that's without the thinner nylon washer - which is on it's way. The ramp on to I84 East from 182nd in Portland allows for a fairly long run up a 2-3% grade. I have used this in the past for testing. At 30psi of boost - gauge maxed - and 1200 degrees EGT's it moves. The truck ran quite nicely up to 70 mph in 4th and I know there is more there.

The only down side is that I will have to get a new boost gauge. :D :D

Good work Mike - I can't wait to dyno at Piers. :D :D

It replaces the eccentric tapered pin and allows the Fuel Delivery Rate Pin to move farther thus increasing the fuel delivery rate. The "sticky's" posted by Bushwaker will give an excellent explanation of the purpose of the "Fuel Pin".

It goes in the aneroid housing - the housing with 4 screws on top of your pump. When you remove this cover you will see a diaphragm - if you remove the diaphragm the eccentric will be attached to it. Underneath that will be a spring and at the bottom of the aneroid housing is the star wheel. The pin the eccentric controls rides parallel to the engine near the bottom of that hole.

Hope this helps.

Great to hear that you are happy with the results, Bob. The correct washer is on its way. Communication between Lenny and I is a little more difficult now that I am away from the shop for a few months. But we have everything figured out now.

Mike,

Yep, the pins are ready. Please email me with any questions.

Hey, Old Smoky,

Are the "new" pins of a harder metal? I remember the original problem, and am certianly interested if these new guys aren't going to get all silly under the stress :D

Thanks for the hard work,

Russell

Russell, I have been running an Old Smokey Fuel Pin for about 2000 miles. I pulled it the other day to show it to a friend and it has no wear at all. I did talk to Mike about how hard it was treated to and he told me it was Rockwell 60. That's very hard.

I don't think wear is going to be a problem.

Where the real problem is, my wife had to use my truck the other day and when she got home all she said was "wow, your truck is really fast". Now we have a problem.

This is the same woman that doesn't pull into the driveway, she makes a low approach.

Second installment. I had a chance to get on it today when merging into freeway traffic. I was in 4th at about 45 mph and got on the old girl - 70 mph before I knew it. Dave is right - it's Fast with a capital F. :D :D :D Not a great deal of smoke either.

Bob

I'm looking forward to getting one of these. I sent Old Smokey a "PM" a few days ago. Are any other parts needed to do the installation, such as a gasket? What is this I hear about a different nylon washer?
