? on aux light install

i just ordered a set of westin driving lights to install on my bullbar. the instructions call for tapping into the parking lights wiring. there is a line to the battery and a separate on off switch. so what is the reason for the tap into the parking lights and can this be avoided. if not whats the easiest way to get to this wire

Personnely, I wouldn't tap into the wiring harness. Find a good place to mount the switch, run a wire from the battery to a relay and wire from it to the switch and lights. Don't forget to fuse it properly and use wire that can handle the load. I only tap into the harness if there is no other way to go like the turn/brake lights on my lightbar.
